Geysers – hot water fountains
Hot water springs coming out like a fountain called geysers. They are characterized by intermittent water squirts a column of hot water and steam. The names of these sources comes from the region Geyser, in Iceland, which are found in large numbers. They have also been studied for the first time in Iceland, is related to the region with volcanic activity.
The way in which researchers have been described by some Icelanders, Americans and Russians, geysers presents an internal structure that resembles that of a volcano. They are made from a cone and a small crater, which actually Icelanders call it pool, tank or basin, because, after the cessation of the outbreak of water, place the so-called crater is filled with hot water. Crater or basin is connected to a channel may have a diameter of several feet. Hot water and pressure flows through the channel located within the earth’s crust.
In Iceland, the source of the best known is the “Great Geyser”. He cast a hot column (80-82 ° C) to a height of 30 m, over a period of 10-15 minutes. A gushing geyser activity resumes after 25-30 hours. Point is gushing mouth channel, which has a diameter of 3m. He continues outside with a small crater (reservoir), which is surrounded by a cone of the geyser. The tank has a diameter of 18m and a depth of several feet (3-4m).
